As a CPA with over 30 years of experience, primarily in public accounting, Tim O’Connor brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the role of a part-time CFO. His extensive background signifies a deep understanding of diverse industries, financial reporting, tax strategies, and regulatory compliance. His ability to analyze complex financial data, provide strategic advice, and implement sound financial controls is invaluable for guiding organizations toward sustainable growth. With a proven track record of working closely with businesses to optimize financial performance, a seasoned CPA is uniquely positioned to bring clarity and confidence to decision-making in a part-time CFO capacity.
Tim has spent his career supporting small and mid-sized businesses. From the onset of his career in 1989, Tim began as a staff accountant at Baker, O’Connor & Company where he was eventually named a co-managing partner of the firm. In 2012, he led the firm’s merger into Edelstein & Company, a mid-sized CPA firm located in Boston, Massachusetts. Tim joined Edelstein & Company as a Partner in their accounting department where he managed all aspects of financial reporting and management as well as tax preparation and planning for clients across numerous industries with revenues ranging from $5 million to $80 million. He also coordinated and consulted with clients in the sale of their business to larger competitors or private equity firms. He focused his practice on family-owned businesses and assisted with transitions from one generation to the next. As Tim developed relationships with clients, he founded Marjiam CFO Services where he plays the critical executive role of part-time CFO for his clients.
The name Marjiam is an ancient Aramaic word which is interpreted to mean “little star in the sea.” This name resonated with us because over the years many of Tim’s clients would remark how they enjoyed the “little pearls of wisdom” Tim would share to help enlighten and guide his clients. We also like to emphasize the theme that pearls start off as a grain of sand, needing time, care, and attention to become something beautiful, “little stars in the sea.” This is how Tim approaches a business - seeing their potential sometimes even before they do!
